The Battle of Benevento took place near Benevento in Southern Italy on February 26, 1266. The army of Charles of Anjou decisively defeated the forces of Manfred of Sicily. Manfred was slain in the battle, while Charles of Anjou was crowned King of Sicily ending the Hohenstaufen rule in Italy.
