Battle of Covadonga (c. 718)

The Battle of Covadonga took place sometime between 718 and 725. The Christian forces led by the legendary Pelayo (Pelagius) who is widely considered the founder of the Kingdom of Asturias decisively defeated the Moors. The Battle of Covadonga was the first major victory of the Christians of the Iberian Peninsula against the Moors since the Muslim conquest of Iberia and is traditionally regarded as the beginning of the Reconquista or Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula by the Christians.
