Battle of Kulikovo

The Battle of Kulikovo was fought between the Mongols and the Russians led by Dmitri Ivanovich of Moscow at the Kulikovo Field near the Don River on September 8, 1380. The Russians suffered severe casualties but managed to defeat the Mongol army which was completely destroyed. The Battle of Kulikovo was the first major victory against the Mongols and marked the beginning of unification of the Russian lands under leadership of the Grand Duchy of Moscow. However, the Mongols devastated Moscow two years later.
