Battle of Lechfeld

The Battle of Lechfeld was fought near present-day Augsburg in 955. German king Otto I decisively defeated the Magyars who afterwards ceased to invade Germany and permanently settled in the Pannonian Basin. Victory in the Battle of Lechfeld also enabled Otto I to consolidate his authority in the Kingdom of Germany and established a base for his future imperial coronation.
