Battle of Meloria (1284)

The Battle of Meloria was a naval battle fought between Pisa and Genoa near the Meloria islet in the Ligurian Sea off the coast of Tuscany in 1284. Genoa decisively defeated Pisa which afterwards became inferior in compare to other Northern Italian city-states, while Genoa emerged as a strong naval power and a rival to Venice.
