Battle of Mons Lactarius (553)

The Battle of Mons Lactarius was the decisive battle of the Gothic War fought between the Byzantine Empire and Ostrogothic Kingdom in Italy from 535 to 553. The Byzantine general Narses decisively defeated the last remnants of the Ostrogoths and killed their king Teias in the battle which took place near Naples in 553. The Ostrogothic Kingdom in Italy collapsed and the Apennine Peninsula returned under Byzantine control.
