Battle of Marchfeld

The Battle on the Marchfeld at Durnkrut and Jedenspeigen was a major event in the history of Central Europe which took place on August 26, 1278. The imperial army led by Rudolf I of Habsburg decisively defeated the forces of Bohemian King Ottokar II who perished in the battle. Rudolf I gained control of Austria, Styria, Carinthia and Carniola and established a base for the future rise of the Habsburg dynasty.
