Enguerrand VII, Lord of Coucy is said to be the best trained knight of his time. He was sent to England in 1360 as a hostage and married Isabella, daughter of Edward III of England. Enguerrand remained neutral in the Hundred Years’ War between England and France and joined several number of Free Companies – mercenary troops. Enguerrand died during the Crusade of Nicopolis after the outbreak of the bubonic plague among the Turks by whom he has been taken captive.
