Palamon is a literary character in The Knight’s Tale, the first tale of The Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century. The Knight’s Tale is about two knights Palamon and Arcite who were imprisoned by Theseus, duke of Athens and fell in love with the same woman – Emily they saw through the bars of their cell. They tried to win Emily by any means once released from prison until Theseus arranged a battle over Emily in a tournament. Palamon prays to make Emily his wife, while Arcite prays for victory. Arcite wins the battle but is killed by his horse falling on him before he could claim his prize and thus Palamon married Emily.
