Saint George by Raphael

Saint George, a Christian saint and martyr was in reality a Roman soldier who died in year 303. He became famous throughout Europe in the times of Crusades. Saint George supposedly helped the Franks at the Siege of Antioch in 1098 and made a similar appearance following year at Jerusalem. Patron saint of many countries is always depicted as a heroic knight wearing the suit of armor or chain mail, ridding a white horse and killing a dragon from Medieval Times onwards.
